The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics, who with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbor on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries.

The objective of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s work.  The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion.  Persons who wish to join the Legion must apply for membership in a Praesidium.  The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual.  The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish.  Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary.

Our Lady Refuge of Sinners Praesidium of the Legion of Mary meets every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Community House (Due to COVID-19 we will meet outside in the Memorial Garden.  We welcome new candidates.  Contact Raquel Gonzales at 646-915-4641for more information.

There are two types of membership: Active and Auxiliary.  Active members attend meetings each week, say the Rosary daily and the prayers in the Tessera.  Auxiliary members are prayer warriors saying the Rosary daily and the prayers in the Tessera.  Weekly attendance is not required.

Celebration of Several Apostolic Works Since 2003:

• Donating thousands of rosaries and literature for the spreading of Mary’s Message in the USA, Cameroon, Gambia, Nigeria, Kenya and Canada
• Making over 400 visits to homes, nursing homes, and hospitals
• Counseling over 200 families, friends and members
• Providing transportation for over 150 families, friends and members
• Providing holy communion during daily mass, Sundays, feast days, and for the homebound/nursing homes
• Attending every Eucharistic Congress and passing out literature on the Legion of Mary
• Having representatives at all meetings of the South Atlanta Curia Meetings for the Legion of Mary
• Having Rosary Rallies America Needs Fatima and Our Lady of the Rosary
• Providing the Rosary at funerals, when requested
• Encouraging 22 fallen-away Catholics to return to the practice of their faith
• Providing activities that help to prepare children of members to become faithful Catholics and assigning weekly home catechism activities for parents
